From One Architectural Icon…
Our move from IJsbaanpad 2 to Pedro de Medinalaan 3B has taken us from one architecturally inspiring neighborhood to another.
Previously, we were near the historic Olympic Stadium, designed by Jan Wils for the 1928 Olympics. This stadium is a prime example of the Amsterdam School of architecture, known for its expressive brickwork and integration with urban planning. Adjacent to the stadium is the Burgerweeshuis, designed by Aldo van Eyck in 1960. This building is internationally regarded as a key work of post-war modernism and an early example of structuralism in architecture.
…to Another
Our new location in IJburg places us next to the Enneüs Heerma Bridge, an iconic piece of engineering designed by Nicholas Grimshaw. This steel tied-arch bridge, spanning 230 meters, connects IJburg with Amsterdam and is celebrated for its elegant design and robust functionality. A prime example of parametric architecture, the bridge's design integrates computational precision to optimize its curves and proportions, showcasing how algorithm-driven solutions can achieve both structural efficiency and aesthetic appeal.
For architects, engineers, and professionals in the construction industry, it stands as a remarkable example of innovation and craftsmanship. IJburg itself is a testament to Dutch engineering prowess, being a residential district built on artificial islands in the IJmeer. The first ideas for IJburg date back to 1965, with significant development occurring in the late 1990s and early 2000s. This ambitious urban planning project has created a vibrant neighborhood that embodies cutting-edge engineering and modern living.
Exciting New Neighbors
